Your old code can still be used for 72 hours, even after changing your passcode.
If you forget it, this genius trick is designed to let you back into your iPhone.
Because someone has discovered it that shouldn’t have, if you’ve changed your passcode, they could abuse this to break into your iPhone.
Apple explained that Passcode Reset gives you 72 hours to access your device using your old iPhone or iPad passcode after changing it in iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and later.
“Your passcode must be changed again as soon as you access your iPhone or iPad in this manner.
How do you make a passcode expire?
Expiring your old passcode is thankfully a very simple fix.
So that it can’t be used, your old passcode can be instantly switched off.
If you’re feeling nervous and someone close to you saw your passcode in public, make sure to do it or if you don’t trust them.
Check if any of this affects you by making sure you’ve got iOS 17 installed first.
To check your current iOS version, simply navigate to Settings > General > Software Update.
Enter your passcode by going into Settings > Face ID & Passcode.
Now, just tap Previous Passcode to Expire.
Someone who has learned your passcode won’t be able to use it anymore once you’ve switched to a new one.

Passcode Reset
For a smooth experience, it’s easy enough if you want to use the Passcode Reset with the 72-hour grace period in case you changed your passcode for some other reason.
Enter your passcode five times on the Lock Screen until you see the screen that says “[Device] Unavailable.
Your device will ask you to try again later.
Then when you can try again, tap the new Forgot Passcode? icon in the bottom corner of the screen.
You will have the opportunity to input your previous passcode. Subsequently, adhere to the on-screen instructions to establish a new passcode.
