Samsung Unveils Galaxy S24 Smartphones Featuring Integrated AI Tools

“Step into the Next Generation of Mobile AI with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series.

Samsung on Wednesday unveiled its latest line of Galaxy smartphones, including a suite of built-in artificial intelligence tools, as it aims to broaden the appeal of its Android devices and become the world’s most powerful smartphone. Apple is regaining its place as the biggest selling phone.

The company unveiled the tools during its annual product launch in San Jose, California, highlighting new AI integrations, including intelligent translation and interpretation services and in-app image search. The focus on AI marks a shift from the tech giant’s previous hardware-based approach to developing and marketing its smartphones.

The next generation line includes three phones:

Galaxy S24, priced at $799.99.
Galaxy S24 Plus, priced at $999.99
Galaxy S24 Ultra, priced at $1,299.99
The price of the Galaxy S24 Ultra represents a $100 increase over last year’s comparable model, or an 8% increase. The increase mirrors what Apple did with its most luxurious model, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which launched in September.

Users can pre-order the device starting Wednesday. The new phone will start shipping on January 31.

Here’s what to expect from Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy smartphones.

Direct interpretations in foreign languages

The latest phone enables users to utilize a function that facilitates foreign language interpretation while on calls. The feature will support 13 languages and 17 dialects and will be accessible for calls on any type of smartphone, as well as landlines.

This feature saves users’ preferred language settings, as well as collecting data on which languages are used in each user’s phone calls.

Search for images in the application

Google will introduce “Circle to Search” on the latest Galaxy smartphones, allowing users to highlight fragments of text, parts of an image or video for instant search results.

The new Galaxy phones will also allow for quick and easy ways to customize the appearance and location of specific parts of photos taken with the device’s camera. It’s a feature that can help people improve their photos, but it can also make it easier to create misleading photos.

AI-powered photo editing tools

The new smartphones will come with a range of AI-based photo editing tools. With the Generative Editing tool, users can delete or reposition objects in their photos, as well as fill in the edges of images to fix crooked photo frames.

Galaxy’s AI will also offer an editing suggestions option, allowing users to get automatic feedback on how to improve and edit their photos.

How does it compare to Apple iPhones?

Forrester Research analyst Thomas Hessen said Apple is expected to include more artificial intelligence in its next-generation iPhone in September, but now Samsung is starting to take the lead in making the technology more ubiquitous.

That’s a competitive advantage Samsung can leverage, according to market research firm International Data Corp., which last year ceded its long-standing position as the world’s largest smartphone supplier to Apple.

“Samsung’s marketing challenge is to make technology transparent to inspire consumers with magical, invisible experiences,” Hassan said.
