According to a study by the Center for Human Pharmacology at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, certain ingredients including antioxidants in chocolate help produce serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain that makes us feel happy and relaxed.

These ingredients found in dark chocolate are tryptophan, phenylethylamine and theobromine.

Phenylethylamine is reported to act as a naturally occurring antidepressant and helps release dopamine, which makes us feel happy.

The report also states that excessive consumption of chocolate can be dangerous for health. So care should be taken while using it to avoid complications including obesity, increased cholesterol, high blood sugar level etc.

According to medical experts, 50 grams of chocolate bar contains 250 kilocalories. Health experts suggest that one can eat up to 30 grams of dark chocolate a day to enjoy all the benefits.
